Cómpeta is the ideal destination for visitors who like the atmosphere of a typical Andalusian village. Situated half an hour from the coast and in the foothills of the Nature Park of the Sierras Tejeda and Almijara mountain ranges, the village offers a variety of relaxing and exciting possibilities.

The contrast between the white houses, the blue skies and the flowers make a stroll worthwhile. The small streets of the village are steeps and you can find many stairs on your walk through the centre.

Cómpeta has 4.000 inhabitants of different nationalities (all well integrated) Furthermore there are many good restaurants, tourist information office, a local market on Saturday and a 24/7 health centre.

One of Cómpeta's well known fiestas is the Noche del Vino (night of the wine), celebrated every year since 1973 on the 15th of August. Originally this was the date for a good bye party for the people that went to the countryside to pick the grapes. The Town Hall decided to honor those hard workers by organizing an official party at which all inhabitants and visitors are invited. In 1999 the Andalusian government declared the Noche del Vino fiesta de Interés Turístico Nacional de Andalucía. The morning festivities take place in the Plaza de la Vendimia (Grape harvesting Square) with the traditional crushing of the grapes, music, dance and a free lunch consisting of migas (fried breadcrumbs/garlic served with sardines), grapes and wine. At night they move to the Plaza Almijara. Where a stage in the form of an Andalusian farmhouse is set up where the numerous artists and folk singers are presented.

Semana Santa (Holy Week) of Cómpeta is full of mystery and passion, accompanied by typical dishes: omelettes, cod and pumpkin.
